Communication objective
The series is composed of ten fictional photographs, inspired by Richard Yates Novel The Easter Parade. Set in 1050’s America, the tragic novel follows two American sisters, Emily and Sarah Grimes. Sarah is the traditional one, marrying early, and settling into a seemingly idyllic life in the suburbs. Emily is more independent, but experiences a series of unsatisfying intimate relationships, drifting through life. The novel chiefly concerns the relationship, or lack thereof, between the sisters and their family. The project was done as part of the Oberon Project at the Royal College of Art 2010.
Tools used
The work is constructed completely in Adobe Photoshop. I composed hundreds of different pictures I took together to create photographs from my imagination. Some of the features in the photographs are illustrated in Photoshop entirely. The characters were photographed separately in a studio, later composed in the picture, and changed using Adobe Photoshop. I also used Adobe Photoshop in color correction and adjustments, to determine the atmosphere of the pictures and the light.
